A stark and sharp main title card accompanies this film's introduction, which ushers the viewer on a descent into The Forest, a story about a wooded region in Japan with a high annual rate of suicides.

After plunging into the depths of the forest, the filmmakers asked us to develop a concept that would tell the story of "straying from the path", a prevalent theme and point of conflict for the main characters throughout their journey.
