In partnership with HBO, showrunner Alison Schapker, producers Jordan Goldberg and Bryan Carroll, and our incredible design and animation team, Filmograph crafted an opening sequence for the television adaptation of the novel "The Sisterhood of Dune". Taking place 10,000 years prior to Paul Atreides and the iconic Denis Villeneuve-directed film installments, our narrative explores the origin, purpose, and customs of the Bene Gesserit through mythological storytelling. With a mix of found footage, archival editing, the piece features symmetrical, infographic-like compositions alluding to the pursuit of human perfection by any means necessary. Every action of seemingly good intent is undercut by dark, visceral transitions that foreshadow the morally questionable approach the Sisterhood deploys in an effort to manipulate power against the backdrop of war and competing interests. Finally, as a finishing touch – and to evoke prior analog techniques as part of our process – the titles were recorded to 35 mm film negative, printed, and scanned back in.
